Feed Specialities

Although the EU’s compound feed industry with stable compound feed sales is not riding the same wave of success as the industry worldwide, it is making a substantial contribution to animal husbandry being worthwhile in Europe. The ever higher degree of specialisation reached by the feedstuffs is striking. The traditional division into rearing feed and feeds for different growth stages is no longer sufficient to be able to satisfy the needs and support the health of the productive livestock in every phase of their lives. The great progress made in the performance capability of modern genetics takes its toll on keeping and feeding. Accordingly special feedstuffs providing support for heat stress phases (that occur already at temperatures slightly above 20 degrees), transit phases, regroupings, transport or other stresses afflicting farm animals belong in the portfolio of compound feed producers. Here demand is oriented to criteria other than pure nutrient supply. Additive suppliers are intensively developing and researching new products for these fields of application.

Focus on performance and health

The performance potential of today’s modern pig genetics has increased substantially in recent years. In order to make full use of this potential, individual consultancy building on the animal health status, feeding and drinking technology, housing hygiene and the housing climate is needed, so that the optimal feed concept can be worked out. Only by taking these various influencing factors into account is it possible to design feeding in such a way that cost-efficient finishing can be realised at all.

Rabobank EU Feed Market Outlook 2017

The European feed market is one of the world’s largest feed markets. Yet, it is stagnating in terms of volume growth. In this article, we will discuss short-term market developments and provide a perspective on structural shifts in the industry.

» Premixes enriched with know-how
Mixing precision and safety form the basis

The premixes produced by Twilmij in Stroe are mainly sold in Northwestern Europe. This is the main distibution area of Twilmij. The Plant and office are located near of Highway A1 in Stroe between Apeldoorn and Amersfoort. Because of the central locatin of Twilmij most of compound feed industry in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany are reached in three houres of time. In this region and the main distribution area of Twilmij th delivery pasths are short.

Catching antioxidative stress

Polyphenolic molecules display strong anti-oxidant activity (Rice-Evans, 1997). There is a positive, linear correlation between the polyphenol concentration in a product and its antioxidant activity (Proteggente et al., 2002).

UN body examines impacts of subsidies

With its Oceans Forum, UNCTAD (United Nations conference on Trade and Development) has addressed the development of sustainable fisheries. At a conference in Geneva at the end of March, subsidies for fisheries were also identified as an inhibitor of sustainability. On this occasion, Andreas Stein of Euroduna Rohstoffe GmbH, Barmstedt, was able to show how the fishing and seafood production and trading chain is promoting sustainable management.
