»Providing turkeys with optimal supplies
L-Arginine as next-limiting amino acid

L-Arginine is one of the essential amino acids for poultry farmed for meat production (fattening poultry). Alongside its importance for building up muscle protein, it also has known functional effects. Compared with other amino acids, l-arginine has only recently become commercially available, but is now being increasingly used above all in the poultry sector. Arginine can help to optimise the amino acid content and pattern of the rations, especially in the currently growing efforts to reduce the protein and nitrogen contents in feed rations.

»Heat stress situations of sows
The role of fiber in feeds
As every year pigs and especially lactating sows suffer from heat stress during the summer time. Their thermoneutral zone lies between 15 and 20°C. When the temperature in the housing unit rises above 20°C sows will react by reducing their feed intake. Apart from exploiting all possibilities to reduce the temperature in the building and to provide cooling, management strategies also include an adaptation of the feed formulation.

»Encapsulation in the fluidised bed
Optimised bioavailability of additives in feeds
As a consequence of statutory regulations and economic pressure in animal husbandry, the demands made of the feed industry are growing constantly. Target-oriented feeding is not left to chance. A wide range of vitamins, enzymes, minerals and essential oils are used to boost performance and resistance to pathogenic germs. Through encapsulation using fluidised bed technology, it is possible to increase the bioavailability of these complex additives and significantly improve the quality of the feedstuffs. The machinery and plant manufacturer Neuhaus Neotec is a specialist in these methods and describes differences.
